You
must be at least 18 years of age, and
have a stable prescription, and no disease of the eye. People
with certain Arthritis diseases, or those who take certain
medications are not candidates for LASIK. A certain thickness
of the cornea is also required. The best way for you to determine
this is with a thorough exam from your eye doctor. Dr. Gelwan
offers FREE LASIK Evaluations
2. Will the procedure
hurt?
The LASIK procedure itself is completely painless.
There are no needles. Instead, anesthetic drops are used to
numb the eye just before surgery begins. After your procedure,
your eye may feel a foreign body sensation or irritation for
a few hours, but most patients are quite comfortable after
taking a short nap. You will be given drops for your eyes
to counteract the potential dryness you may experience for
several days following the surgery.
3. How long does it
take to recover?
Most LASIK patients usually see quite well
the day following their procedure and may be able to resume
most of their normal daily activities, but patients with higher
prescriptions may recover more slowly. Although the speed
of visual recovery depends on personal healing patterns, most
patients notice dramatic visual results within the first few
days following their procedure.
4. Will I need glasses
after the procedure?
If you have selected monovision, chances are
you won't need glasses after the LASIK procedure, otherwise,
you will need reading glasses if you are over the age of 45,
just like any other person in that age group who has not had
LASIK.
5. What is monovision?
The Monovision LASIK surgery procedure leaves
one eye corrected for distance and one eye for close up vision.
Monovision postpones the need for reading glasses by allowing
one eye to handle the up-close vision duties for a while.
Mostly this is a procedure for near-sighted people.
6. What is Custom
Cornea®?
CustomCornea® is a new kind of LASIK procedure
that takes a similar approach and can help with many of the
same visual problems. There are two reasons CustomCornea®
is different. CustomCornea® is the first laser vision correction
procedure to go beyond reshaping your cornea based on your
prescription for eyeglasses or contacts. The procedure is
completely customized to your eyes and your eyes alone. Secondly,
CustomCornea® can help with other vision problems that could
not be detected previously, known as higher order aberrations.
Experts believe these aberrations can be responsible for vision
problems like glare and halos in low-light conditions and
at night.
Higher order aberrations cannot be treated
by traditional laser vision correction procedures, or even
by wearing glasses or contacts. CustomCornea® was the first
laser vision correction procedure that's FDA approved to address
higher order aberrations.
7. How much does LASIK
cost?
At The Laser Vision Institute Dr. Gelwan charges
$1500 per eye. In addition every month we offer 20-40% discounts
to patients who bring other patients or relatives
8. How will I pay
for the LASIK procedure?
Payment is usually by check credit card or
cash. In addition we have many excellent financing programs
with interest rates as low as 10%. Many of these programs
offer interest free payment terms for the first 12 months.
Your procedure will generally cost about 2 dollars a day with
approval in 15 minutes
9. How do I schedule
